'I was already a trained teacher and spent years dealing with minor sports injuries and it made clear financial sense to add first aid training to my portfolio. When I joined the Fire Service, my skills went to another level as I am first in to treat the casualty before we make it safe for the paramedics to take over'.
Matthew Reynolds
'I loved the idea of being a first aid trainer because I like to help people. The best part is that it's not just limited to my own family and friends but also strangers too. It is an honour to teach other people what I know about first-aid so they can have the skills if needed in case something happens.'
Katie Stephens
'I became a first aid trainer because I wanted to be able to help people in need. I like being able to use my knowledge of CPR and other life saving techniques on people who might not have the chance if it weren't for me.'
Sarah Howard
If you are a medical professional such as a Doctor, nurse or paramedic you only need to show evidence of your professional membership. Anyone else can become a first aid trainer by getting your own First Aid certificate. Typically you need to hold a qualification one level higher than you can teach.
We do recommend that you have substantial experience in the medical field to teach first aid however this is not a requirement. Experience can be gained by being a first aider at work, volunteering or simply shadowing other qualified first aid trainers.Â
If you’ve done an advanced course such as First Person on Scene (FPOS) or First Response in Emergency Care (FREC) both at level 3 then these will be sufficient to allow you to teach as long as you possess the Level 3 Award in Education and Training AET). Each awarding body will have differing requirements about the Assessor qualifications but you will be good with any of the teaching qualifications of Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET), Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (CET) and Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET).
Our teaching and assessing qualifications are recognised by Ofqual and will qualify you as a first aid instructor nationally within the UK and abroad. These qualifications will also allow you to teach and assess in any other industry too.

You don't need to be a qualified Doctor or registered Nurse but you must have sector qualifications up to the level you intend on teaching and normally one higher.
You only need to hold the Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work to teach the qualification and an instructors qualification.Â
