Is the DET a recognised qualification?

The DET is rigorously regulated by Ofqual, ensuring national and international recognition. It's endorsed by all esteemed training providers, colleges, and universities.

Can I work in a school after I complete the DET?

Teaching in schools usually requires a recognised teaching qualification like a PGCE along with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

What are the pre-requisites?

You must be at least 19 years old
You must possess good reading & writing skills in English at Level 2
You must possess knowledge of the subject you wish to teach/deliver
You must have access to learners aged 14+ in any teaching environment in groups of 6 plus to meet the 100 hours teaching practice
You must be self-motivated

Do I need a teaching placement?

You will need to be observed teaching and must complete 100 hours of teaching learners aged 14+. You are responsible for sourcing your teaching placement. Your placement can be in a voluntary role and you do not need to be in a teaching position before you start the course but is recommended.

How are the teaching hours observed?

You can use a friend or mentor to assess 8 hours of your teaching. They must be qualified as a teacher to a minimum of Level 5 teaching such as the DET and produce CVs and teaching certificates.

What if I don’t have my own observer?

Don't worry., we can arrange a time and date to observe you and you will set up a laptop in your classroom where we can observe you online.

How many lesson plans do I need to produce?

You need to log 100 hours but you don’t need to produce 100 hours of lesson plans. You only need to produce lesson plans on the observed lessons.

I only teach one subject,, how can I produce a scheme of work?

You only create a scheme of work on the programme that you deliver. Some learners meet the teaching hours by delivering the same subject over and over.

Do I have to attend every lesson?

The classes are optional, you can attend any lesson you wish to which suits your schedule. It is designed to fit in with your current life plans.

How long do I have to complete the qualification?

You have up to 2 years to complete the qualification.

What does the Level 5 DET cover? The diploma covers a wide range of topics including teaching and learning strategies, curriculum development, assessment methods, understanding learner needs, and the broader educational context. It's designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to become an effective educator.

Can I study the Level 5 DET online? Yes, we offer online or blended learning options for the Level 5 DET, allowing you to study at your own pace and fit your studies around your existing commitments.

The training was delivered partly online and partly through webinars, which worked really well. I never felt alone during the course and felt like I was attending real classes with support throughout. The PowerPoint presentations were clear, helpful and easy to follow.

Great online training provider.. I would definitely recommend. I found this company online as well as some others. Having already started a similar online qualification with another company a couple of years ago The Education and Training Academy were significantly better (reasons below)....

I spoke first of all to Matt as I was unsure which was the best course for me. He was very helpful and give me honest and accurate advice on which was the best course to join.

I chose to do the online only version which was right for me, and found all the online videos and training material provided very helpful. As with all online training courses it can take a while to navigate around the platform but this one was fairly simple and easy to use once you had figured it out.

Communication overall was very good and I typically got quick and helpful emails/messages back. With the option to book online meetings if you need them, I did this once and found it helpful

I would definitely recommend this company and have already done this for two of my colleagues who want to do the same course

The options to choose between a tutor lead course, online tutoring course and self-study course were really stand-out compared to most other training schools I looked into. This suited my requirements around other commitments and my preferred speed of study. In general the communication via the emails was reasonably quick with responses coming through within less than 5 days when asked. Only thing I found was a little misleading change of information or assessment requirements in my final few modules which I think should have been realistically updated on the online portals (I chose the self-study option). And the other thing I found a bit difficult was the microteach group sessions which were not as regular as I would have expected - however the option was provided to undertake a self micro-teach which (with a little luck) I was able to undertake eventually. Aside from this, the course content is thorough and helpful to all types of learners providing video footage, written text, regular assessments and portfolio requirements in an easy to access format via the online portal. Would recommend this course if you're in a hurry to qualify and looking for reasonable pricing structure. Thanks.

Having signed up for the AET with Education and Training Academy for the on line course the whole portal immediately appeared and access was straight forward . The portal was simplistic to navigate through and all of the material needed was available including books, lesson videos and all relevant portfolios. I was able to communicate with my teacher and the response was very quick and detailed. From a background with limited teaching experience the whole process was very interesting and informative and has given me confidence to move to the next level.

The Education and Training Academy is the 4th awarding body for teaching qualifications I have used over the past 13 years and for me the best one.
