Planning a holistic approach in the Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA)

We’ve talked about what holistic planning is in the Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) but how do we plan it?

Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement qualification specification

First things first is that we need to start with the qualification specification as our reference point to help us to construct assignments that meet the outcomes listed. And even before that, we need to check with the awarding body to ensure we can do that. I learnt the hard way when I was younger, so we had to redo everything because it wasn’t on the awarding bodies template. Think about where naturally occurring opportunities happen and across which activities.

Assessing the Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement in the workplace

In the Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA), most learners are assessing in their workplace. It might be someone assessing a product, a person or they are supervising a team. This is where a course induction comes into its own. When planning the Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) with our learners, we will discuss opportunities where holistic assessment may occur in day-to-day activities which can be used in the workplace or the classroom. Our plan should consider which units, learning outcomes and assessment criteria can be assessed.

Types of assessment that can be accepted in the Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement

We will discuss the types of evidence that can be accepted. For example, do you have a supervisor or mentor that could be used as a witness testimony? Are there any work products that you currently create that can be used? We will discuss when and where assessments will take place? The duration of the assessment. For example, the assessments within the Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) are not timed. Its about ensuring that you have sufficient evidence to meet the learning outcomes. We may discuss your outcome of your work and put together an action plan to meet other learning requirements.

The key is to look for ways in which the assessment could be faster and more efficient.  Lets look at assessing learners together, lets look at assessing learners back to back, lets look at assessing different assessment methods one after another.
