'I was already a trained teacher and managed multiple different security contracts. I got sick and tired of working 12 hours shifts and decided to take the plunge to become an SIA Instructor. To be honest, I never realised how many different courses I could teach alongside the security courses with health and safety and first aid amongst them'.
Matthew Reynolds

'Transitioning from close protection to becoming a CP instructor was a carefully considered move driven by several factors. My enduring passion for close protection, coupled with a growing need for well-trained professionals, motivated me to share my expertise. This shift allows me to positively impact aspiring security professionals, contribute to industry standards, and continuously grow in my career.'
John McVey

An SIA Instructor is a qualified professional who is authorised by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to provide training and education to individuals aspiring to work in the security industry in the United Kingdom.
You must have relevant experience and qualifications in the security industry.
To become an SIA Instructor, you typically need to follow these steps:
Following completion of any SIA Instructor course, you will need to gain a Physical Intervention licence from an approved training provider to teach their syllabus for 12 months. You need to refresh your Physical Intervention skills each year to stay current and you'll get issued an annual licence each time. When completing your SIA Instructor course with the Education and Training Academy, you will be granted a 12-month licence with us.
Yes, SIA Instructor licenses typically need to be renewed annually. The renewal requirements can vary, but they often involve continuing professional development (CPD) and staying up-to-date with industry standards.
The duration of the process can vary based on your prior experience and the specific training provider you choose. Typically, it can take several months to complete the necessary training and receive your instructor license.
You will need to obtain the Level 3 Award in Education and Training and the Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment before you complete the Level 3 Award in Delivering Conflict Management Skills and Level 3 Award in Delivering Physical Intervention Skills in the Private Security Industry.
Our SIA Instructor course is delivered starting with a week face-to-face classroom learning. Learners are given 2 weeks to complete their portfolios and self study and then return to the classroom for a final week face-to-face in the classroom to complete their final observations and examinations.
Having a criminal record may affect your eligibility to become an SIA Instructor. The SIA and training providers may consider the nature and severity of the offense when assessing your application.

Our public dates are demand-led and vary by region. We work with trusted partners across the UK so we can host assessment days at venues near you. The learning itself is self-paced with tutor support, so you can start straight away without waiting for a classroom date. When you’ve completed the study and practice tasks, simply book an assessment day with us and we’ll confirm the nearest available venue and time. If you don’t see a date listed in your area yet, add your details to the interest list with your location and preferred days. We use this to open additional assessment days where demand is highest and will contact you as soon as new slots are released. For teams, we can also arrange private cohorts on your site or live online to suit your rota.
Our group courses can be delivered in-house at your offices or at a suitable venue. Group training can often work out more cost effective if you have several members of staff you would like to be trained at any one time.
