Behaviours that can occur in the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (CET)

Personalities n the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training

When you are teaching, you will come across multiple behaviours and personalities in the learning environment and if you are taking the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (CET) you will see these learners in your group. Classrooms are diverse where learners come from different backgrounds, have different needs and different expectations and these differences are what makes training fun. You have to remember that are many factors which will influence someone’s behaviour but let’s have a look at the difference behaviours you will come across.

Introverts n the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training

We will start with introverts and extroverts. I am an introvert and learners fall on a scale between being highly introverted, highly extroverted, or anywhere in between. Extroverts are social creatures and get their energy from being around people. My wife is an extrovert. Introverts like mee, like quiet and need to space to get energy. You will have quiet learners and social learners in your classroom. Extroverts like group work, introverts not so much. When grouping individuals into activities you need to conder this dynamic. A quiet learner isn’t necessarily not listening, it could because they need to process this information.

A classroom is a place where multiple creative minds come together to attain knowledge, skills and improve their abilities. Behaviours may vary vastly depending on the types of learners. All learners will behave differently in the learning environment. There are multiple factors that can influence a learner’s behaviour, there may be personal, environmental, or situational factors that will influence a learner’s behaviour at a given time.

Positive behaviours in the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training

Positive behaviours in the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (CET) are defined as the actions that create a positive learning environment and/or enabling others to work more effectively through what we say or do. For example, displaying behaviour that is encouraged such as positive attitude, motivated, actively engaged, inquiring, communicative, self-disciplined, supporting others, confident, responsible, setting and achieving own goals, practical. Negative behaviour on the other hand is defined as any action performed by a person or people which is not in line with the norms and expectation of people living in the society such as distracting others, bullying.

Passive aggressiveness is not a behaviour I see often in the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (CET) but more so in college and schools as it is motivated by a learner’s fear of expressing anger directly. Therefore, the learner expresses anger in ways such as complaining, refusing to participate, procrastination, cynicism, or a hostile attitude.

Disruptive behaviour as you would imagine is any behaviour that chronically threatens and intimidates others or violates social norms. When we set ground rules in the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (CET), we will detail unacceptable behaviour or conduct which will include interrupting others, impulsiveness with little regard for safety or consequences, aggressiveness, or other socially inappropriate acts.

Lastly challenging behaviours is any behaviour that someone displays that is a challenge for others to manage and/or puts others at risk. Learning difficulties are also associated with challenging behaviours.
